In Patient Unit (IPU)

In Patient Unit

Most people choose to receive hospice care in their homes; however, when a symptom such as pain cannot be managed in the home, patients can choose to receive care in our inpatient hospice unit.

The in-patient unit offers 8 dignity rooms with 24 hour visiting. Rooms are furnished with a reclining chair which allows for a family member to stay overnight. Family members are encouraged to make full use of this facility.

A multi-faith chapel, situated close to the In-Patients Unit entrance, is open to all those who may need space for private prayer or spiritual reflection. The hospice ethos of caring for the whole person recognises that spiritual care is as important as caring for the patient´s physical, mental and emotional well-being.

Patients admitted as in-patients to the IPU will be cared for by a specialised team of palliatively trained nurses and social workers. We continue to consult with the patient’s own doctor. Trained emotional support volunteers will also be in attendance for the families of our patients, who need their support.
